Wellness Communities…by Kayla Flournoy
Let’s discuss Wellness Communities. Now, I know when I first spotted that word, I thought “doctor,” but upon my variety of research, that’s not what it is at all. Before we get further into this article, we have to grasp what a ‘Wellness Community’ is. The definition is; A group of people living in close proximity who share common goals, interests, and experiences in proactively pursuing wellness across its many dimensions.
The importance of these communities is the people it helps. Community involvement and support can improve resilience and help people tackle any obstacle or task that comes their way. Having an entire community behind you boosts your confidence and calms the mind.
#1) Bodhi Tree Yoga Resort – Costa Rica
This beautiful, down-to-earth resort has everything a yogist would adore. Overlooking the Nosara jungle in multiple spots on the property has become one of the most popular hotspots for people who want to escape to a more calming environment. They understand that the Wellness life isn’t for everyone, so expect health-conscious foods and green juices from the bars and restaurants here. With six spacious yoga shalas, outdoor and indoor options available, and show-stopping zen rooms to help relieve any stress that has still managed to wiggle its way into your mind, this place has it covered. Not into yoga? How about pilates, indoor cycling, samba, or surfing? These attributes are at the tip of your fingers within this Wellness Community and mark why it’s ranked so highly on this list.
#2) Hidden Pond – Maine
A cottage sounds like such a serene place to spend your time during a vacation, and what better way to do it than being spread out over 60 acres of land. With 36 suite-like bungalows and two-bedroom cottages, this property has all the spacious rooming you’d need to sleep peacefully and comfortably during your stay. But what does it have to offer you during the day? A spa that resembles a treehouse, free yoga classes are held at the organic farms where guests get to pick flowers and veggies, plus an outdoor bar and grill. Should I keep going, or has your curiosity peaked? Did I mention this Wellness Community has a free shuttle to the beaches only 5 minutes away? What’s better nature therapy than the beach?
#3) Serenbe – Georgia
This neighborhood built with miles of meadows meets this list indefinitely. The community here thrives on fresh food and fresh air, which sounds like a dream, but for most city-goers, it is. Finding “fresh” anything nowadays is becoming harder and harder to do, but this community is breaking all the stereotypes and living their best lives alongside each other. This neighborhood prides itself on being focused on philanthropy, nature, arts, food, and music. Home to a 25-acre farm that produces over 300 varieties of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Imagine walking down the street to your favorite locally owned store and reaching out to grab a blueberry off of the many bushes growing alongside the sidewalk. That’s a place I have to add to my bucket list.
The concept of healthy living feels so far out of reach to people all around, but a simple google search will prove that tons of people want the same thing as you. All it takes is finding the right Wellness Community for you.
