Baby Boomers – Retire & Relocate?
Article prepared for Doorways International by Kayla Flournoy
Today retirement tends to be engraved in the minds of millions of Baby Boomers. But the question is, where are the best destinations for retirement? Comfy cabins on the side of the Colorado mountains? Vibrant beach homes on the shores of Costa Rica? Or maybe the best of both worlds in the country of Panama. We’ve all wondered about it, or at least the thought has crossed our mind a few times. If that’s a question you’ve asked and never received an answer to, this article is for you.
Costa Rica:
Costa Rica is at the top of the list for senior retirement. Known for its incredible national parks and activities for all, including zip-lining to cave tubing, Costa Rica has it all. But let’s dive a little deeper into why it’s been chosen as one of the top places for retirement, shall we? Costa Rica’s health care cost is much lower than that of the United States. With low monthly fees, retired individuals can benefit from more affordable prescriptions, surgeries, and regular checkups than one would find in the United States. Healthcare for a lower cost and tons of new adventures for each day? Sign me up!
Panama:
When I say Panama City, the first place that probably pops into your mind is Florida but not in this case. The second stop on our list is Panama, located in Central America that links Central and South America together. The country is a hot retirement spot because of its friendly locals and affordable living costs. The consumer price index for the United States is 76.53, while Panama comes in at a whopping 55.16. Structured with mountains and beaches, this destination is as beautiful as the price tag that comes along with it. If you don’t mind the tropical climate and are indecisive about where you want to live, Panama is the country for you.
Florida:
Florida dominates most statistics regarding retirement, and for a good reason. Beautiful weather with sunshine almost every single day and sand between your toes, this sounds like a dream come true. With consistent housing costs, Florida is continuously the desired state for retirement, and research says that those individuals are happy with where they live. The monthly cost of living is higher than the two places mentioned above, but having sun, an ocean close by, and waves canceling out your worries, tends to make the price tag worthwhile.
Tennessee:
There is no surprise that Tennessee has made it to our list. This state is known for its affordability, a selling point for most. If you’re a music lover, this state should be at the top of your list for retirement. A significant part of Tennessee’s music includes Jazz, Country, and the Blues, and music museums are located all over the state. If museums aren’t your thing, don’t worry! Fairs and festivals, Dollywood and Graceland, have something for everyone to enjoy. Let’s not forget the stunning scenery of mountains and the curved roads that brings peace to you as you drive around this beautiful state.
Retire and Relocate? The choice is yours, but I hope this article helped shed some light on the subject for you.
