MADEIRA ISLAND – PORTUGAL – THE NEW 5 STAR PROPERTY LOCATION IN EUROPE

Madeira Island renowned as the “floating garden” in the Atlantic is located South West of Portugal (approx. 1 000km from Lisbon).

The island has an international airport with direct flights available from many European cities including Frankfurt, London, Gatwick, Paris, Madrid, Zurich and of course, Lisbon.

Madeira boasts a beautiful horse-shoe shaped harbour which has attracted hundreds of luxury sea-cruise ships to it’s shores over the century.

Renowned as an island with eternal springtime, Madeira’s climate is Mediterranean and mild throughout the year. Air temperatures fluctuate between 16º and 19º C in winter to 21 – 25º C in summer.

Due to its geographical location and traditional links with foreign countries, Madeira has been welcoming European gentry since the early 1900’s, particularly from the United Kingdom, so much so that there are British ex-patriots who now live on the island, many of whom have chosen to retire out here. There is a mixture of different cultures which includes a German speaking community to the East of the island.
There are good sporting infrastructures available – such as golf (2 PGA Golf courses), tennis, mountain-climbing, horse-riding, deep sea fishing (well known for some of the finest big game fishibg for the Atlantic Blue Marlin) , sailing and many more !
Madeira’s rare, mild climate allows for some of the most fascinating and exotic flora and fauna in the world.  One of the most popular and well-known activities on the island is the famous man-made irrigation walks known as “The Levada Walks” – where you can get in touch with nature. This archipelago, included in the bio-geographic region of Macaronesia, retains a natural heritage of great scientific value, distinguished by UNESCO as World Natural Heritage. Madeira’s indigenous Laurissilva forest, occupies a total area of 15 thousand hectares and forms part of a vast layer of vegetation that covers the island.

Over the last twenty years and given it’s entry into the EU, there has been major developments in the infrastructure of the island including the building of new tunnels and highways allowing easier and faster access from and to the main city of Funchal. As a result, many property investment opportunities have come about and are available for the discerning and more astute buyer. This picturesque island is also considered a natural haven of peace and tranquillity and one of the very few “safe” destinations in the world. It’s awesome and magnificent urogrophy of striking landscapes, mountain views and surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean has made it one of Europe’s main tourist destinations.

Funchal has a myriad of historical buildings and museums including art galleries which have been immaculately preserved and restored. Both the traditional store shopping is available as well as contemporary shopping centres and malls, which have branched out on the outskirts of the city centre.

The island also has a very rich culture and provides year round cultural entertainment and festivities, which draw hundreds of tourists throughout the year.
